Any time of day is perfect for a stroll around Ibiza, one of those walks that bring you into contact with nature and when you return you feel like you've recharged your batteries. But if there is a more special time than any other for a stroll, it is at sunset, when the landscape is tinged with reddish tones and the heat fades away to give way to the pleasant temperatures of the night.
That is why we suggest a stroll along one of the most attractive parts of the coast of the municipality of Sant Josep, the western cliffs that run along the coastline from Cala Codolar to Platges de Comte, from where you can best watch the sunset during the summer months. Let's discover all that the west of Ibiza has to offer!

Leaving Sant Josep, head towards Sant Agustí and after the turn-off that leads to the centre of the village, you will find another on the left-hand side that indicates the various beaches located in this area, most of which are west-facing. If we follow this road in the direction of Platges de Comte, just a couple of kilometres before reaching these spectacular beaches is the path that leads to Cala Codolar, a hidden cove from where we will begin this interesting route.
Before starting to walk, enjoy the beauty of this cove, a secluded spot far from the crowds, perfect for those who appreciate the tranquillity of small beaches. Its natural charm is not overshadowed by the few services available on the beach, and its waters are usually of that crystalline blue that is so abundant in this part of the island. And while you're in the area, you'll want to pack some good shoes because it's worth climbing up the southern part of this beach to reach Cala Llentia, an even more hidden beach that we couldn't forget on this route.
The attraction of Cala Llentia lies in its location, which is difficult to access due to the lack of a road to get there by car, a fact that allows it to remain almost untouched. It is located in a hidden bay in the cliffs that go from Cala Corral to Cala Codolar, which are also a wonderful viewpoint from which to contemplate the Mediterranean, with Es Vedrà in the background in the southern part and, on the clearest days, you will be able to make out the coast of Dénia in the distance. Of course, it is a great place to watch the sunset in the early and late summer months. From there there is a small path that leads to the shore of Cala Llentia, a beach of pebbles and crystalline waters that with a bit of luck, you will find at your disposal. The picture is completed by the beach houses that can be found in the cove and which give it its typical Ibizan character.
Returning to the starting point, Cala Codolar, we will continue to explore the beauty of the area's landscape. To do so, we will head north, crossing the urbanisation located in Puig des Dofí. On the other side, following the coast, we will reach sa Figuera Borda, a bay whose attraction will surprise you when you observe it from the heights. The best thing about this corner is the enormous cave that is found here, an impressive hole that crosses the rock from side to side, providing the perfect setting for contemplating the views over s'Espartar, the islet that rises off this coast. To reach it, you will find a staircase in the northern part of the bay. These lead to the dry dock huts that take advantage of the shelter of the cave. The place has an unusual appearance and is worth a visit to enjoy what the rocky coastline has to offer, either by taking a dip and diving in its clear waters or by observing the landscape through the hole.
Once we ascend again, we can enjoy the panoramic view of the western horizon of the island and s'Espartar in the background. This islet is known for being one of the places where esparto grass was harvested in years gone by. Nowadays this harvest is no longer practised, but there are still a few licensed gatherers who keep the tradition alive. The area of cliffs you will cross is known as Ses Roques Males, and here you will find a path that leads directly to Platges de Comte, where the walk ends.

If you continue along the route along the coast, the first cove in Platges de Comte is Racó d'en Xic, a small sandy area with the occasional beach hut, ideal for enjoying the calm, crystal-clear waters that bathe this coastline. Next, following the crags, we find the west beach, the favourite place for visitors to see the end of the sunset, that moment when the sun reddens the most to disappear definitively over the horizon. Next is the Tramuntana beach, which does not have the same perspective for enjoying this spectacle but is still as beautiful as the rest of the landscape and offers the best views of s'Illa des Bosc, the undisputed star of Platges de Comte. In the background, to accompany the sunset, you will also find the Illots de Ponent, which together with Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell make up one of the most important Nature Reserves in the municipality.
So, after exploring the dunes, cliffs and beaches of this area, there is nothing better than taking a seat either on the sandy shore or on the edge of the small rocks that border the western beach, as there is nothing better than ending a walk with the spectacular postcard of the Platges de Comte sunset.
