SCUBAWEEK 2026: a week to discover Ibiza's marine culture

The sea is part of Ibiza's identity, its history and its traditions. And for a week, SCUBAWEEK 2026 once again demonstrated that under the surface of the Mediterranean there is a natural and cultural heritage that is worth knowing, sharing and protecting.

Organised by Fomento del Turismo de Ibiza, through its active tourism club Enjoy Ibiza Activities, with funding from the Consell Insular d'Eivissa and the institutional collaboration of the town councils of Santa Eulària des Riu and Eivissa, this edition brought together informative activities, workshops, professional meetings and proposals for all audiences. A programme that culminated in the premiere of SCUBAWEEK EXPO, a new space dedicated to bringing marine culture to the heart of the city.

SCUBAWEEK EXPLORA: learning about the sea from a young age

The programme began with the underwater photography and video competition sponsored by DIVEVOLK, an opportunity to show the beauty of the seabed and bring the public closer to the richness that is hidden under the waters of Ibiza.

On Thursday, October 22, it was the turn of SCUBAWEEK EXPLORA, held in the Jesús auditorium. This activity was especially dedicated to the youngest, who were able to discover the underwater world through educational and participatory proposals.

Among them, the workshop "Art versus Plastic" stood out, which combined creativity and environmental awareness to reflect on the presence of waste in the sea.

The day also included a fun diving masterclass in which several children participated in a practical experiment to understand the three types of buoyancy: positive, neutral and negative.

A way to awaken curiosity about the marine environment and show that learning about the ocean can also be an entertaining experience.

SCUBAWEEK EXPO: the sea returns to the heart of Ibiza

On Saturday, October 24, one of the great novelties of this edition took place: SCUBAWEEK EXPO, held at sa Peixateria, the old fish market in Ibiza.

The choice of space was not accidental. For generations, this place was closely linked to fishing activity and the daily life of the city. Recovering it as a meeting point for marine culture made it possible to connect Ibiza's seafaring past with the challenges and knowledge of the present.

The conference, which was attended by the Councillor for Festivities and Citizen Participation of Eivissa, Francisco José Torres Hario, brought together professionals, companies, associations and visitors around a diverse programme.

Attendees were able to enjoy lectures on archaeology, the environment and underwater photography, photography masterclasses and content dedicated to posidonia, one of the most valuable ecosystems in the Mediterranean.

There was also no shortage of children's proposals, such as the participation of Matibiza, who made portraits of children in a marine environment, and the workshop "Art versus Plastic", which once again united artistic expression and respect for the environment.

Beyond the activities, one of the great achievements of SCUBAWEEK EXPO was to create a meeting space between different sectors related to the sea. Sharing experiences, exchanging knowledge and discovering the work of other professionals opened up new possibilities for collaboration, in a day that also stood out for the good reception of the public.

SCUBAWEEK FORUM: Reflections on the Future of Recreational Diving

The week concluded on Sunday, October 25 with SCUBAWEEK FORUM, a panel discussion held at the Royal Plaza Hotel.

During the meeting, different experts addressed two fundamental issues for the sector: how to improve the quality of recreational diving teaching and how to reinforce safety during its practice.

The exchange of views raised issues on which the sector should continue to work in the future, highlighting the importance of training, knowledge and collaboration between professionals.

This last activity closed an edition that combined dissemination, education, culture and reflection, bringing the underwater world closer to both those who already practice diving and those who want to know better their marine environment.
